Tour de France, Wheel to Wheel

In celebration of this tour coming to Yorkshire in 2014 I decided to create this painting.

The aim was to create an impression of the speed, spectacle and colour of the event rather than a tight illustration.

The Grand Depart is a test of endurance for the cyclists but the speed of the peloton passing by is the highlight of the event for many spectators so that is the aspect of the event that I focussed on.

Red, white and blue were the obvious colours to use in the painting for nationalistic reasons on both sides of the channel.
