Eight little figures stroll across a field of sunshine yellow, wading through sweeps of metallic gold that catch the light every time you pass. Love of Gold is a miniature crowd painting, just 8cm square, but it carries the same warmth and movement as Neil McBride's large crowd canvases.
Seen from above, each figure is built up in thick, textured paint: violets, deep blues and a flash of rust red, every one of them heading somewhere with purpose. Around them the gold swirls and ripples like late afternoon sun on a promenade, warming to orange at the edges.
It is a painting about the golden hours we treasure: days out, good company, and the feeling that everything is exactly where it should be.
