A pocket-sized burst of sunshine.
Ten little figures cross a blaze of tangerine orange, walking through sweeps of metallic gold and buttercup yellow that catch the light as you pass. Tangerine Dream is a miniature crowd painting, just 8cm square, but it has the same energy and movement as Neil McBride's large crowd canvases.
Seen from above, each figure is built up in thick, textured paint: cobalt and navy blues, deep greens and inky blacks, with flashes of rust, lemon and white. They walk in pairs and on their own, some leaning into the breeze, all heading somewhere with purpose. Around them the orange glows like the end of a long summer's day, flecked with blue and a single swirl of green.
It is a painting about warm days and good company, and the dreamy, end-of-summer feeling of being exactly where you want to be.
