Vermilion is the colour of fire, festivals and red-letter days. In Vermilion Tendencies it floods the whole board, and eight small figures cross it in a hurry, coats flying, as if the ground is too warm to stand still on.
Seen from above, each figure is built up in thick, textured paint: violet, royal blue, turquoise and smoky black. Streaks of metallic gold flash across the surface, and a ribbon of bright turquoise snakes between the figures like a path only they can see. Up in the corner, a twist of green cools things down just enough.
At just 8cm square, it is small enough for a bookshelf or a desk, and bold enough to change the mood of the room it lives in.
